The program

A satisfied consumer is a consistent consumer.

The Initiative was established to answer a question the food industry has generally avoided: not whether a person enjoys something once, but whether they are still choosing it in the second year.

Work is conducted at the Lincoln County Consumer Research Center, where twenty-four sensory evaluation stations, three pilot formulation kitchens and an instrumented preparation laboratory operate alongside the analysis wing that supports our longitudinal household panel.

A single question can begin at a tasting booth on a Tuesday morning and be followed, through the same participating households, for years. Very few programs in this industry are structured to observe a person for that long. The findings that follow from doing so have been considerable.

Measurement

What the Initiative measures.

Satisfaction is not a single quantity. The Initiative tracks six measures, each capturing a different part of the relationship between a formulation and the person consuming it.

Satisfaction metrics
Participant-reported satisfaction immediately following a serving, scored against a standard scale and compared with reference formulations.
Preference persistence
The rate at which repeat selection declines following household adoption. Slower decline is the single strongest predictor of category performance in our data.
Caloric acceptance
The caloric density a participant will accept within one serving before reporting that the portion feels large. Formulation adjustments can raise this figure without a corresponding change in reported fullness.
Behavioral consistency
The degree to which an individual’s selections remain stable across repeated sessions. High consistency indicates a decision that is no longer being made deliberately.
Consumption compliance
The proportion of a served portion actually consumed, measured by weight rather than by participant report.
Population response modeling
Extension of panel findings to regional and national scale, producing consumption forecasts for served populations and capacity estimates for supply planning.
Findings

Recent results.

Across the categories evaluated in the most recent annual cycle, formulations developed under Initiative guidance outperformed reference formulations on every tracked measure. The strongest gains came from households enrolled longest in the panel.

Recent trials demonstrated measurable reductions in unnecessary food-selection behavior. Participants in the adjusted-formulation arms deliberated less, revisited alternatives less frequently, and reported higher satisfaction with the selection they made.

A public summary is published as Consumer Satisfaction Research Summary (SC-RD-L17) in the corporate documents library. Panel-level protocols and data are held internally.

Participation

About our panel participants

Participation in SucroCorp research panels is voluntary and compensated. Participants are recruited by invitation within the regions we serve, are informed of the general nature of the study, and may discontinue at any time without explanation.

Panel retention is high. The overwhelming majority of households that complete an initial term elect to continue, and our longest-enrolled participants have now been with the program for several years. We regard this as an encouraging indicator of the participant experience.

Participant records are maintained under internal review protocols. No individual participant data is published or transferred outside the program.

Households interested in receiving invitation information may contact SucroCorp Media Relations through the contact directory. Enrollment periods open periodically and by region.
